EAST RUTHERFORD, N. Chad Kelly Broncos Jersey .J. - The New York Giants waived suspended safety Will Hill on Monday. Hill was suspended by the NFL last week for six games in the upcoming season for violating the leagues substance abuse policy. He missed the opening four games of 2013 while under a similar suspension. Signed by the Giants as a free agent in 2012, Hill played in 24 games for the team. He had no starts as a rookie, but made 10 starts last season. In his career, he returned one of his two interceptions for a touchdown and also played on special teams. A New Jersey native, Hill went undrafted out of Florida in 2012, in part because of off-field issues. Demarcus Walker Womens Jersey . Subject :ARLINGTON, Texas - Toronto right-hander Drew Hutchison knows how to hang tough and make in-game adju

ARLINGTON, Texas - Toronto right-hander Drew Hutchison knows how to hang tough and make in-game adjustments. Jake Butt Jersey . Friday night he reaped the benefits in a matchup with Texas Yu Darvish. Hutchison, back in the majors this spring after having Tommy John surgery late in his rookie season in 2012, outdueled the Rangers ace Friday night, throwing a three-hit shutout for his first career complete game in the Blue Jays 2-0 victory. "I was grinding a little bit," said Hutchison, 23, who made 11 starts as a rookie and 10 appearances late last season in the minors. "I had good command, but my secondary stuff took me a little bit to get to. I was able to make that adjustment and make better pitches with the changeup and slider." Melky Cabrera broke up a scoreless game with a two-run double in the eighth inning to give Hutchison (2-3) all the support that he needed. He struck out six in earning his first victory since April 1. Blue Jays manager John Gibbons wasnt surprised by Hutchisons performance. "Ive been watching him pitch from the first day of spring training," Gibbons said. "When hes on, he can be as tough as anybody." Cabreras liner sailed just beyond the outstretched glove of Texas first baseman Mitch Moreland, scoring Erik Kratz and Anthony Gose. Kratz and Gose each reached against Darvish (3-2) on infield bunts. The right-handed hitting Kratz bunted to third and beat an off-balance throw by Adrian Beltre. Gose, a left-handed hitter, drag bunted up the first-base line. Morelands throw to second baseman Rougned Odor covering first base wasnt in time. Kratz and Gose were in the lineup replacing Dioner Navarro and Colby Rasmus. Navarro is on the bereavement/family medical emergency list and Rasmus is on the disabled list. Kratz said it was his decision to open the inning with a bunt. "Wed been talking the whole game about getting something going," Kratz said. "It was just an idea that worked." Darvish said through an interpreter that he was surprised by the first bunt but not by the second. He went eight innings, allowing two runs on five hits. Darvish struck out 11 and walked three in his first start since throwing a one-hitter against Boston last Friday that Major League Baseball on Wednesday ruled was a two-hitter. Neither team got a runner beyond first base until the sixth inning — thanks in part to a successful Toronto challenge in the third inning that reversed a safe call on a steal of second base by Leonys Martin. In the bottom of the sixth, Martin walked, was bunted to second, advanced to third on a sacrifice fly. He was stranded when Elvis Andrus grounded to shortstop. Darvish was working on six days rest because of a shuffling of the Rangers starting rotation when Martin Perez experienced elbow pain in his start Saturday. The first hit off Darvish came in the fifth inning, a leadoff single pulled to right field by Adam Lind. The Rangers have lost three straight and five out of six to fall six games behind first-place Oakland in the AL West. Texas typically potent attack went into the game ranked 10th in the league in slugging percentage and 11th in runs. And, in the past week, the Rangers have lost left-handed starters Perez and Matt Harrison to what appear to be season-ending injuries. "Its in the back of our heads; its sad to see whats happening to our pitching staff," Rangers right fielder Alex Rios said. "This is an offence capable of doing a lot of damage. We havent quite gotten there yet." NOTES: Left-hander Robbie Ross, Texas Saturday starter, has allowed 23 earned runs in 26 2-3 innings over his last five starts. ... Blue Jays left-hander Mark Buehrle will bring the ALs most wins (7) and the leagues second-best ERA (2.04) into Saturdays start. ... Andrus hitting streak ended at 11 games. Demarcus Walker Womens Jersey . -- The Val-dOr Foreurs made it to the Memorial Cup semifinal thanks to their workhorse goaltender and their ability to hang around like a bad cold. Jake Butt Youth Jersey . LeBron James leads the Miami Heat in a quest for three consecutive championship titles, while Tim Duncan looks to add his fifth ring with the San Antonio Spurs when the series tips off with Game 1: Miami @ San Antonio on Thursday, June 5 at 9 p. MIAMI -- LeBron James is dealing with a few aches and pains, which obviously is not the best news for the Miami Heat with two weeks left in the regular season. Come game time, though, nothing seems to be ailing him. Bringing the crowd out of its seats with a pair of highlight-reel dunks in the first half, then drilling a deep 3-pointer to end the third quarter, James was his typical effective self on Wednesday night. He led Miami with 17 points, and the Heat stayed atop the Eastern Conference with a wire-to-wire 96-77 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. "If I feel like I can give something, Ive got to be out there for my teammates," James said. "Its my obligation to be out there for them. Im dealing with a few things, but for me to sit out, I have to be dealing with a lot more." Chris Bosh scored 15 and Mario Chalmers scored 14 for the Heat. "I like our effort," Bosh said. "We just have to take care of business and do what were supposed to do." Ramon Sessions scored 19 points for Milwaukee, which got 14 from Jeff Adrien, 11 from Brandon Knight and 10 from John Henson. Zaza Pachulia grabbed 16 rebounds in 26 minutes for the NBA-worst Bucks, who have now had 11 games this season in which they never led. "Getting down against a team like that is definitely tough because they continue to play hard," Knight said. "They dont let up and they dont make many mistakes. ... Credit to them but we didnt execute defensively and we didnt play hard enough." The Bucks fell to 14-61 with seven games remaining and are now only one loss away from tying the franchise record for most defeats in a season. "As we wind this thing down with seven games to go, the thing I want is see them compete," Bucks coach Larry Drew said. "Were dealing with adverse times. This is really a good time to see what guys are truly made of." James said he doesnt currently plan on sitting out any of Miamis final eight games, and Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said he probably wouldnt even think about any strategy to get him some rest for at least anotherr week -- a stance that cant come as a surprise, considering the East No. Jake Butt Womens Jersey. . 1 seed is hardly secure. With the win, Miami (52-22, .703) remained percentage points ahead of Indiana (53-23, .697) in the East race. The Pacers beat Detroit 101-94 earlier Wednesday. "Its tempting to start to look ahead. Were only two weeks away," Spoelstra said. "But theres so much basketball left in these two weeks. And it is very compelling at this time of year, and we are trying to accomplish some things. So as guys start to get back into the lineup we want to take a step forward as a group. And theres a process to that." At some point, that process will presumably include getting Dwyane Wade, Ray Allen and Greg Oden back into the lineup. Wade missed his 23rd game of the season, his fourth straight with a hamstring problem. The Heat are 11-1 in the last 12 games that Wade has missed. Allen has been sidelined by a flu bug that struck his entire family, though hes nearing a return. Oden has been sidelined by back spasms, with Spoelstra saying hes also close to getting back. "Were sharpening our swords," Spoelstra said. Milwaukee opened the fourth quarter with six straight points, cutting Miamis lead to 14 and getting the Heat to call time-out. Whatever doubt existed at that point, if any, didnt last long. Norris Cole snapped Miamis scoreless drought with a beat-the-shot-clock 3-pointer as he was leaning to his right with 8:35 left, Rashard Lewis swished another 3 on the next Heat possession to restore the 20-point cushion, and that basically ensured James would remain in his warmups for the rest of the evening. NOTES: The Bucks led the Heat for a total of 2 minutes, 21 seconds this season -- in three games. ... Miamis Udonis Haslem earned a technical late in the half after a bit too much physicality with Adrien under the basket. Haslem also got his 1,500th career offensive rebound. ... The Heat moved to 30-6 at home, the seventh time in franchise history theyve won that many in Miami. ... Milwaukees O.J. Mayo missed the game with an ankle injury. LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- If the Bears make changes this off-season, it will not be at quarterback. Chicago signed Jay Cutler to a seven-year contract Thursday, ending speculation they might make a change after five seasons of good and bad from their talented signal-caller. Cutler clearly thrived under first-year coach Marc Trestman and now has some of the best complements on offence hes had since arriving in Chicago in 2009. "Its not always been easy," Cutler said. "Theres been some ups and downs. Theres been some bad years theres been some good years. I think it makes me appreciate the moment Im in even more, with the offensive weapons we have, with the type of leadership we have from the front office, with the type of coaching staff we have with the play calling and our (offensive) install. It makes me happy Im here." The Bears also signed cornerback Tim Jennings, who has led the team in interceptions in each of the past two seasons, and guard Matt Slauson to four-year deals. Like Cutler, both players were scheduled to become free agents. General manager Phil Emery said the team and Cutlers agent, Bus Cook, completed contract discussions three days after the season ended Sunday with a 33-28 loss to the Green Bay Packers in a game that decided the NFC North title. Terms were not disclosed, but the deal for the 30-year-old Cutler is reportedly worth nearly $18 million per year over the first three years and includes at least $50 million guaranteed. "I think whenever you have two groups who want to work in the same direction and want the same thing to happen it can happen relatively pretty easily," Emery said. Cutler produced his career-best passer rating of 89.2 in 2013, although he played in just 11 games due to ankle and groin injuries. He completed 224 of 355 passes for 2,621 yards and 19 touchdowns with 12 interceptions. Emery said he was sold on Cutlers return after seeing him in Trestmans offence early in the season. "After the first three games I definitely knew it was going in the right direction in terms of him putting the team in position to win games at the end of the game," Emery said. "That says a lot about the player. I think that Jays third-down passing and fourth-quarter quarterback rating are very high and have been high for a while. He was in the top 10 in both areas this year. I think it speaks of a guy that can be a guy, a player, that is a reason you win." Still, Emery said he wanted to see how Cutler responded to some adversity. He saw it when Cutler came back from a groin strain to face the Detroit Lions in a 21-19 loss and from an ankle sprain to beat the Cleveland Browns 38-31. Takkarist McKinley Jersey. "How he handled the situation coming back from his second injury and the tremendous pressure that was on him because of the decision we had made to reinstate him as the starter, how he handled that as a person, pregame, game, within the game, after throwing a couple of picks, coming back and being a reason that you win the game," Emery said. "How he handled the Packers and Lions ... thats when I finalized the decision." Cutler feuded with former offensive co-ordinators like Ron Turner, Mike Martz and Mike Tice, but he has steadily climbed the franchise statistical charts and guided the Bears to the NFC championship game in 2010. Under Trestman, he seemed to gain a new lease on life. "The mindset is right and the talent in the locker room is right, so Im happy to be joining the rest of the guys, the rest of the coaches, the rest of the organization in pursuit of a championship," Cutler said. Cutler wouldnt call money the key reason for staying out of free agency, citing familiarity with Trestmans offence as a big factor. He has only been in the same offence for consecutive years a few times in his NFL career, which started in 2006. Trestman found Cutler ran his offence efficiently, even if he had a reputation as a big-play, big-mistake type of player. "Hes been through a lot," Trestman said. "I mean, part of whats brought him to this point is the scars of the last five years and the adversity that hes gone through in getting to know himself better over the last five years. I saw selflessness. I certainly saw mental toughness. When you evaluate a quarterback, you say, does he have an inventory of passes? Can he make all the throws? Does he have mobility? Is he a quick decision maker? Jay has all that." The Bears tabled a few major defensive questions, including the fate of defensive co-ordinator Mel Tucker and whether they should stick with a 4-3 scheme. Trestman and Emery did acknowledge the numerous injuries Tucker dealt with his first season. The Bears lost Pro Bowlers Henry Melton, Lance Briggs and Charles Tillman, as well as middle linebacker D.J. Williams, for big chunks of the season. "I will just tell you were going to be a younger defence," Emery said. "The draft will be focused in that area." Nor would Trestman or Emery rule out the switch to a 3-4 defensive scheme. "Everything is on the table in terms of a discussion," Trestman said. "Phil said it: Were going to get younger. Part of our decisions and how we move forward schematically will be based on the players that are in our locker room." NASHVILLE -- When Seth Jones slipped past the first three picks in this years NHL draft, the Nashville Predators rushed to the podium to grab him at No. Gerald Everett Youth Jersey . 4. They earned their first reward on Saturday night. Jones scored his first NHL goal, and the Predators edged the New York Islanders 3-2. Nashville has won two of three. The Islanders were beaten for the third time in four games -- including twice in two nights. Patric Hornqvist and Ryan Ellis had the other Nashville goals. Frans Nielsen and John Tavares scored for New York. Pekka Rinne needed to make only 14 saves for the win. Evgeni Nabokov stopped 28 shots in the loss. After a scoreless opening period, Jones gave the Predators a 1-0 lead at 1:03 of the second. With Nashville on a power play, Shea Weber had the puck at the right point. Weber found David Legwand on the right boards, and Legwand slid a cross-ice pass to Jones at the top of the left circle. Jones took the puck and beat Nabokov on the short side with a slap shot. "The seam was there for a couple of seconds, and I was hoping that Leggy saw me," Jones said. "Hes got good vision, so he did." The 19-year-old defenceman was put on the left side of Nashvilles top defensive pairing alongside Weber. He took that spot after Roman Josi sustained a concussion just over a week earlier in a game at Colorado. Nielsen tied it at 12:39 of the second after Kyle Okposo found him with a pass as Nielsen came through the high slot unchecked. He snapped a wrist shot past Rinne. Less than three minutes later, Tavares gave the Islanders a 2-1 lead when he banked in a shot from below the goal line off of Rinnes right pad. Hornqvist sent the teams into the second intermission tied at 2 after his shot from the right circle beat Nabokov with 53 seconds remaining in the period. "It was a huge goal," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "He sort of willed that puck in the net. You can say what you want; good goal, bad goal, whatever. I really believe that it was that extra effort that helped us get that goal." It was Hornqvists first of the season. "That was a big goal for them, obviously, under a minute left to go in the second period," Islanders coach Jack Capuano said. Ellis netted the winning goal 3:23 into the third when his slap shot from just inside the blue line on the right side beat Nabokov on the stick side. "Just put the puck on net. I think that is what we have been doing lately, but we werent getting bounces," Ellis said. "Tonight we did get a few, and thats what we need to win." The Islanders managed only five shots in the third. Right after Ellis goal, Nashvilles Matt Hendricks was assessed a double minor for high-sticking, giving New York a four-minute power play. "We had a four-minute power play that didnt generate much, which is not good enough," Tavares said. "We have to find a way to get better in those areas at those times in the game." NOTES: Nashville LW Viktor Stalberg made his season debut after missing the first four games because of a shoulder injury. After playing three seasons for the Chicago Blackhawks, Stalberg signed a four-year deal with Nashville in July. ... Capuano coached in his 200th NHL game. ... Tavares has a four-game point streak. Samson Ebukam Womens Jersey .J. -- Freshman Eli Carter scored a career-high 31 points and hit the go-ahead basket in the second overtime as Rutgers rallied to stun No. Gerald Everett Womens Jersey . The Raptors have been outscored 88-66 in the opening quarter over a three-game span to begin the month of February. Their most recent loss, 109-101 in Sacramento on Wednesday, was eerily similar to Saturdays defeat at the hands of the Trail Blazers.NASHVILLE -- Ilya Bryzgalov is feeling comfortable and very welcome in the Edmonton Oilers locker room, and the 33-year-old goaltender just proved he still knows how to shut opponents down. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Taylor Hall scored 51 seconds apart in the second period, and Bryzgalov got a shutout in his first start for Edmonton as the Oilers beat the Nashville Predators 3-0 Thursday night. "Always like it when they dont score," Oilers coach Dallas Eakins said. "And he picked up right where he left off last game. I thought he was solid. He looked big in the net, everything. Check marks right across the page for him." Bryzgalov, signed by the Oilers on Nov. 8, made 33 saves in his first NHL start since April 25 when he was in net for Philadelphia. Jordan Eberle added an empty-netter in the final minute off an assist from Hall, and the Oilers have won four of five. "So far so good," Bryzgalov said. Predators captain Shea Weber was hit by a puck near his right eye at 15:24 of the second, dropped to the ice and immediately skated to the locker room. He did not return with what team officials called an upper-body injury and is day-to-day. Nashville, which had won two straight, lost for the second time in seven games. Predators coach Barry Trotz noted they have used four goaltenders themselves this season. "The guys are going to bear down and play hard for the new guy thats in net," Trotz said. "The new guy for them is Bryzgalov, and we talked before the game that we needed to get in the hard areas and throw some pucks. He hasnt played for a while. He may be a little rusty. The game might not be tight. .. But obviously we didnt play hard enough in those hard areas." The Predators hosted one of the NHLs two games and were the only American team in action Thursday, wanting to start a holiday tradition in Nashville pairing hockey with turkey. It was just their 11th home game this season, fewer than all but Dallas and the Rangers. Nashville outshot Edmonton 13-9 in a sluggish first period with the Predators playing the second game of a back-to-back after winningg 4-0 in Columbus on Wednesday night. John Johnson Rams Jersey. This is the Oilers only visit to Nashville this season and the start of a three-game road trip. Eakins said he thought both teams were checking hard, which can lead to a dull or sluggish game. "But when youre coaching and you need your team to get better defensively, thats a ray of bright light coming in when the game looks sluggish but your teams checking very well," Eakins said. The Oilers opened the second by taking the first five shots, and Predators forward Paul Gaustad and Oilers left wing David Perron each went to the penalty box for unsportsmanlike conduct at 5:07. Nugent-Hopkins tipped in a shot by Jeff Petry 25 seconds later during the 4-on-4, and Hall scored on a backhander from Sam Gagner at 6:23 for a 2-0 lead. "Were a fast, skilled team," Nugent-Hopkins said. "We have to take opportunities when we get them. Four-on-four is a situation that when we play our game, we can get a couple goals." Bryzgalov, who signed a one-year deal with the Oilers for $1.7 million, debuted Monday in Edmonton, replacing Devan Dubnyk in a 5-1 loss to Chicago. Bryzgalov stopped four shots from Weber in the first period, but Weber had only one shot in the second before the puck hit him in the face. "Obviously if we lose our captain, its always hard and we hope hes OK and hopefully he gets back soon," Predators defenceman Roman Josi said. Bryzgalov had a nice pad save on Predators forward Mike Fisher in the final minutes to finish off his 31st career shutout and second against the Predators. NOTES: The Oilers are 4-5-2 when scoring first. Nashville dropped to 2-10-0 when the opponent scores first. ... Bryzgalov improved to 10-6-3 against the Predators. ... The Oilers are 5-1-0 when leading after two periods, and Nashville is 0-11-0 when trailing after two. ... Nugent-Hopkins has seven points in the last four games. ... It was Nashvilles fourth game on Thanksgiving and first since 2007. The Predators won the first three on their own ice. ... Nashville is 2-2-0 in the second of back-to-back games this season. WASHINGTON -- Juan Lagares was ready to contribute when given the opportunity. Mack Hollins Jersey . "I know I can play. Thats what I do. Thats what Im here for," Lagares said after driving in three runs with a homer and a single and robbing Washingtons Jayson Werth of a home run in New Yorks 5-2 win on Saturday. Lagares came in 5 for 27 in his past 11 games, but he provided a jolt for the struggling Mets. He singled in a run during a three-run first and homered with one on and one out in the third to give New York a 5-0 lead. Hes batting .304 for the season. "Well, hell play tomorrow," Mets manager Terry Collins said to laughter following the game. "He had a good game. Thats great. Thats why we put him in there today," Collins added. "Gios not easy to hit, but hes got a (better) chance to have some success against lefties than he has been against righties, so I let him in there." The Mets outfielder took a homer away from Werth with a leaping catch against the wall in centre. "Im not surprised by anything he does defensively, not a thing," said Collins, who also praised Lagares for his offensive work this week with assistant hitting coach Luis Natera. "I try to be positive, try to do my work in the cage and try to be ready for the opportunity," Lagares said. "Thats the key, be positive and keep working." Bartolo Colon (3-5) allowed two runs and five hits over eight innings as New York snapped a three-game losing streak and won for the first time in 10 tries against Washington. Rookie Eric Campbell drove in two runs and had his first two-hit game, and Daniel Murphy added two hits as well for New York. Colon, who turns 41 next week, came in 0-2 with an 8.31 ERA (17 runs in 17 1-3 innings) in three starts this month -- all on the road. On Saturday, he retired the last 11 hitters he faced. "He made big pitches, he pitched ahead," Collins said. "You know, you looked up and you saw he had 70 pitches, you kind of figured hes on his game." Jenrry Mejia pitched the ninth for his first career save. Ian Desmond had two hits, including a two-run homer, for Washington. Gio Gonzalez (3-4) took the loss, suffering his second straight poor start. Coming off a 9-1 loss at Oakland in which he allowed seven earned runs in five plus innings, he lasted just three innings Saturday. "Arm slot wasnt where I wanted it to be. Up in the strike zone the entire time, falling behind on everyone. You can see it just wasnt a good game at all," Gonzalez said after allowing five earned runs and seven hits. The Mets scored one more run in the first inning Saturday than they had in the previous 27 combined. With one out, Murphy lined a single to centre and David Wright followed with an infield hit between first base and the mound. After Chris Young walked, Campbell sent a single to centre to score Murphy and Wright. Lagares, in the starting lineup for the first time since Tuesday, blooped a single to right, scoring Young with the third run. It marked the 10th time this season that Washington had allowed three or more runs in the first inning. In the third, Campbell singled with one out and Lagares drove a 3-2 fastball into centre. Desmonds homer in the fourth pulled the Nationals within 5-2. Werths leaping catch at the wall with two outs in the ninth preserved Friday nights 5-2 Washington win. He was the victim on Saturday, however, when he appeared to pull the Nationals within 5-3 with a drive to centre to open the sixth, but Lagares raced to the wall, leaped and reached back to grab the drive. "I know he hit it good," Lagares said. "I just go like I always go, hard, and try to make the catch." NOTES: Craig Stammen pitched four innings of scoreless relief for the Nationals. ... The deal announced Sunday includes a team option for for 2019 that if exercised would make the new money $62.5 million over five seasons. "It shows the level of confidence, belief and trust, and the type of player and person he is," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. "Were excited to know that hes going to be a part of this team going forward. Were a better team with Gardy on it, thats the bottom line. This is a good day for him, and we believe it makes the future for us better." Gardner agreed last month to a $5.6 million, one-year contract and would have been eligible for free agency after the 2014 season. The new deal adds a $2 million signing bonus payable next January and salaries of $12 million in 2015, $13 million in 2016, $12 million in 2017 and $11 million in 2018. The Yankees have a $12.5 million option for 2019 with a $2 million buyout. Gardner would receive an additional $1 million payment if hes traded, a provision he can earn only once. "Free agency is something that, it kind of intrigued me, but it also kind of scared me," Gardner said. "Ive never been anywhere else. I love it here. I love putting on the pinstripes everyday." Cashman said talks about the contract started at the winter meetings in December. The Yankees are moving Gardner to left field this year after signing free agent centre fielder Jacoby Ellsbury to a $153 million, seven-year contract in December. Gardner did have questions in his mind about his Yankees future after the Ellsbury acquisition. "When they signed Jaacoby, your name gets thrown out in the trade rumours and all that," Gardner said. Rasul Douglas Youth Jersey. "Its kind of annoying, really. I didnt want to get traded. I dont want to go anywhere else, and I let them know that." The 30-year-old Gardner hit .273 last year with eight home runs, 52 RBIs and 24 stolen bases. "I like what he brings," Cashman said. "The speed dynamic, the defence, and I think the offence is there as well." Also, the Yankees agreed to a minor league contract with injured closer Andrew Bailey, who was with Boston last year and is coming back from right shoulder surgery last July. Cashman said the right-hander might be able to join the team in August or September. "When he is healthy, hes an exceptional reliever," Cashman said. "Hes coming off of a shoulder surgery, so were taking a flier. A low risk. If we can get a reward out of it, great. If not, its one of those nothing ventured, nothing gained." NOTES: Yankees manager Joe Girardi attended a meeting with MLB officials Joe Torre and Tony La Russa Saturday on topics including instant replay. Girardi said the Yankees first instant replay test game will be March 6 against Philadelphia in Clearwater. "It opens up us to more to have to answer for, but I think it gives our game the opportunity to have more things decided on the field, which I think is a good thing," Girardi said. The Yankees plan to work on replay situations throughout spring training even if its not a test game. "Well probably practice with walkie talkies," Girardi said. ... Den Bosch, The Netherlands (SportsNetwork. Dalvin Tomlinson Womens Jersey .com) - Defending champion Simona Halep decided to retire from her second-round match Wednesday at the Topshelf Open, a final grass-court Wimbledon tune-up. The top-seeded Romanian star won the first set, 7-5, against German Annika Beck and was trailing 2-3 in the second when she called it a week, citing a shoulder injury. Halep, who was fresh off her runner-up finish at the French Open two weeks ago, beat Belgian Kirsten Flipkens in last years finale here at Autotron Rosmalen. Two other seeds exited the draw on Day 4, as Chinese Zheng Jie tackled No. 4 Carla Suarez Navarro, of Spain, 7-5, 0-1, retired, and Ukrainian Elina Svitolina bounced a No. 6 Flipkens 7-6 (7-4), 6-4. Eighth-seeded Czech Klara Koukalova avoided an upset by handling German qualifier Mona Barthel, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). Also on Wednesday, Kazakhstans Yaroslava Shvedova edged out Dutch wild card Michaella Krajicek 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-4) and qualifier Coco Vandeweghe overcame fellow American Vania King 6-7 (6-8), 6-0, 2-1, as King retired early in the third. Subject :If Troy Smith is the man Jim Popp has pegged to replace Anthony Calvillo at quarterback in Montreal,

If Troy Smith is the man Jim Popp has pegged to replace Anthony Calvillo at quarterback in Montreal, hell have some big shoes to fill. Patrick Mahomes II Jersey . Regardless of who is tabbed to replace Calvillo, or at least get first crack at it, there are big shoes to fill. Calvillo has said hes leaning towards retirement after concussion troubles likely capped a brilliant 20-year career as the leagues all-time leading passer. The five-time league All-Star also has three Grey Cup rings and was three-times named the leagues Most Outstanding Player. Steering clear of those lofty standards for the time being, can Smith be the guy to lead Montreal back to the top of the East Division? In his four game audition for the role of successor (three regular season contests and the Eastern Semi-Final), the former Heisman Trophy winner had middling numbers, averaging 231 yards per game with 2.25 touchdowns to one interception and a 54 percent completion rate. He was the teams third fill-in after Montreal grew tired of both Josh Nieswanders and Tanner Marshs uneven play. Smith gave the Als a chance to win in each of his starts, finishing with a 2-2 record, but fell short of other first-time starters like Zach Collaros and Bo Levi Mitchell in their stints this season. Smith was short on preparation time as well however, being signed in mid-August, only two months before his first start; a full off-season and training camp will serve the former NFLer well. The Rouge asks: Is Troy Smith the guy to replace Anthony Calvillo in Montreal? As always, its Your! Call. Granada defender Diego Mainz barged into the back of Villa to send the Spain striker to the ground inside the area and Costa stepped up to the spot to score his 12th league goal in the 38th minute. Costa showed no effects of the news that his Brazilian citizenship may be revoked after he elected to play for Spains national team, as the forward was a constant threat for Atletico and forced several saves from goalkeeper Roberto.Morgantown, WV (SportsNetwork.com) - With a four-game win streak on the line, the Wofford Terriers will take to the road to face the West Virginia Mountaineers in a non-conference battle at WVU Coliseum Monday. After a loss to Stanford to open the 2014-15 season, Wofford has won nine of its last 10 games, including the last four in a row. The Terriers took down Charleston Southern, 64-58, in their most recent outing. West Virginia sits at 10-1 entering this contest with the No. 22 ranking in the country in tow. The Mountaineers have won three straight games since a tight 74-73 setback against LSU earlier this month. WVU took down NC State, 83-69, in its most recent outing. These two programs have met on the court three times in history, and West Virginia has taken all three of those decisions. At WVU Coliseum, the Mountaineers are 2-0 all-time. The last time these teams met was back in 2005, when West Virginia won, 61-41. Wofford only held a one-point lead (27-26) at halftime over Charleston Southern in the teams last outing, but the Terriers exploded offensively in the second half that allowed them to gain a double-digit lead. Eric Garcia tallied 15 points to lead his Wofford squad, while Spencer Collins chipped in with 11 points and Jaylen Allen netted 10. Wofford shot 42.9 percent from the floor in the win, which included a dismal 4-of-20 mark from 3-point range. The Terriers have prided themselves on playing stellar defense this season, as they allow opponents to score just 58. Patrick Mahomes II Chiefs Jersey. 0 ppg on 40.9 percent shooting from the floor. Meanwhile on the other end of the court, Wofford is netting 68.4 ppg on 46.1 percent shooting, led by Karl Cochrans 13.6 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 36 assists and 24 steals. The senior has been dominant for the Terriers in just about every statistical category. Collins checks in behind Cochran in scoring at 11.4 ppg as the only other Wofford player in double-figure scoring. Both West Virginia and NC State shot the ball well from the floor in the Mountaineers win over the Wolfpack Saturday. NC State connected on 55.6 percent of its tries from the floor, while West Virginia hit on 53.4 percent. But the Mountaineers made 31 attempts from the field to NC States 20, which was the difference maker. Juwan Staten had 24 points and six assists to lead the team, while Devin Williams tallied 16 points and eight boards and Jaysean Paige netted 11 before fouling out. West Virginias offense has exploded this season, and enters the game against Wofford netting 78.8 ppg on 41.8 percent shooting. Although opponents are shooting 45.8 percent from the field this season against the Mountaineers, they are only scoring 62.6 ppg. Staten leads the team in scoring with 15.8 ppg, adding in a team-best 47 assists to his resume. Jonathan Holton checks in at 11.5 ppg, and Williams adds in 10.7 ppg. Holton (7.5 rpg) and Williams (7.2 rpg) are ranked one-two on the team in rebounding this season for the Mountaineers. Sunrise, FL (SportsNetwork. Sean Harlow Womens Jersey .com) - Johnny Gaudreau and Mark Giordano each posted a goal and two assists, as Calgary scored three times in the third period to claim a 6-4 victory over Florida on Saturday. Lance Bouma provided the go-ahead goal for the Flames, who also received tallies from David Jones, Jiri Hudler and Sean Monahan to win for the fourth time in their last five contests. Jonas Hiller earned the win in relief by stopping all nine shots he faced. Karri Ramo was pulled in the second period after giving up four goals on 22 shots. Scottie Upshall registered two goals and one assist for the Panthers, who tied a season-high by losing three straight games. Jimmy Hayes and Nick Bjugstad added offense, while Aaron Ekblad picked up two helpers. Al Montoya was on the hook for five goals on 24 shots in defeat. Monahans redirection of a Gaudreau pass into the crease just shy of the five- minute mark of the third forged a 4-4 deadlock, and the Flames went up 5-4 with 2:18 remaining when Boumas blast from between the circles sailed over Montoyas glove. Floridas comeback hopes were hampered by an embellishment call on Jussi Jokinen with 1:28 on the clock, and though Montoya was pulled for an extra attacker, Gaudreau deposited the insurance goal into the empty net 23 seconds afterward. Upshall potted the games first goal just 77 seconds after the opening faceoff, banking a shot off Ramos pads from behind the net. Bjugstad doubled the hosts edge at 4:06 of the second period, when he headed to the top of the crease and tipped in a centering feed from Willie Mitchell. On the following shift, Jones scored in a similar fashion off a Gaudreau dish to put the Flames on the board. Upshall restored Floridas two-goal edge when he whacked in a bouncing puck from in close with 7:37 played. Calgary pulled within one while short-handed, as Giordano followed up two chances -- both great saves from Montoya -- by backhanding a loose puck home from the crease. Hudler tied the game when Montoya failed to snag his shot with his glove at 12:56, but Upshalls side-angle shot to the right of the Calgary net was tipped in by Hayes 35 seconds later. Game Notes Gaudreau recorded his first career three-point effort and fourth multi-point game of this season ... Giordano has posted four consecutive multi-point games and totaled three points for the first time since Mar. 26, 2011 against the Oilers ... Announced attendance of 9,230 ranks third-lowest in Panthers franchise history. "The big thing that kind of hurt us tonight were penalties and turnovers," quarterback Matthew Stafford said. "You have those, you make it tough on yourself. We cant do that." Bushs 86-yard touchdown gave the Lions an early lead, and they eventually came away with a 13-12 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Friday night. But Detroit also turned the ball over three times and committed 15 penalties, looking a lot like the team that frittered away a playoff spot last season because of costly mistakes in close games. Calvin Johnson played for the first time this preseason, catching two passes for 27 yards, but Stafford was intercepted once and the Lions struggled in the red zone. Blake Bortles threw for 158 yards and a touchdown for the Jaguars. Jacksonville started Chad Henne, but Bortles -- the third pick in this years draft -- was impressive in relief. He completed 10 of 16 passes, including a 13-yard touchdown to Allen Hurns. The Jaguars were about as mistake-prone as the Lions, turning the ball over twice and committing 12 penalties for 101 yards. Detroits 15 penalties went for 131 yards, including a roughing the passer call on Ndamukong Suh. "For the most part, I havent seen too many (penalties) that were simply physical -- that they couldnt do anything about it," said Detroit coach Jim Caldwell, who took over in the off-season after Jim Schwartz was fired. "The ones we had were preventable, and thats what well work on." Detroit was stopped on fourth down inside the Jacksonville 5-yard line in the first half, and Mikel Leshoure lost a fumble deep in Jaguars territory in the fourth quarter. Ryan Broyles had a fumble at the Jacksonville 1 overturned on replay. George Winn scored from there to give Detroit a 13-12 lead with 7:12 remaining. Even when Detroits top players were in, the Lions struggled at times. Stafford nearly had two passes intercepted on the first drive, but Bush scored on his long run later in the quarter, showing he can still outrun defensive backs in the open field. "My whole mentality was jusst not to get caught from behind," Bush said. Takkarist McKinley Falcons Jersey. "I dont want to come back to the sideline and have guys talking trash and laughing at me that I got caught from behind." Stafford was intercepted by defensive end Andre Branch on the first play of Detroits third possession. Jacksonvilles Josh Scobee kicked a 38-yard first-quarter field goal but was replaced by Kasey Redfern because of a quadriceps injury. Redfern made a 34-yarder in the second quarter but had a 45-yard attempt blocked in the third. Henne went 9 of 14 for 70 yards and avoided any major mistakes. But Bortles, the first quarterback taken in this years draft, was able to move the Jaguars down the field. Jacksonville started at its own 5 with 1:43 remaining in the first half, and Bortles was able to guide the Jaguars into position for Redferns kick as time expired. In the third quarter, Bortles took the Jaguars from their own 14 to the Detroit 27 before Redferns kick was blocked by Xavier Proctor. On its next drive, Jacksonville went 49 yards in four plays for its only touchdown. Coach Gus Bradley maintains that Henne is still the starter, and Bortles seems fine with that at this point. "This has been a perfect situation for me, because it has been a stress-free learning experience," Bortles said. "I knew on Day One that Chad was going to be the starter, and Ive been able to just focus on learning from him. When hes on the field, Im his biggest fan, because I want to see things going right and learn how it works in the NFL." Hurns had seven catches for 113 yards. Jacksonvilles Denard Robinson, a star quarterback when he was at Michigan in nearby Ann Arbor, got a nice cheer from the crowd in the first quarter when he made a tackle on special teams. NOTES: Detroit FB Montell Owens was evaluated for a possible first-quarter head injury, and Caldwell said he didnt have an update afterward. Lions LB Kyle Van Noy sat out with an abdominal injury. ... Bradley said Scobees injury wasnt too serious, but DT David Carter left in the fourth quarter with a sprained MCL, and DT SenDerrick Marks is expected to have an MRI on a shoulder injury. FS Winston Guy Jr. hurt his left ankle, but tests came back negative. IRVING, Texas -- A rising gold football-shaped trophy will be the prize for the national champion in the new College Football Playoff. Kendell Beckwith Youth Jersey . College Football Playoff executive director Bill Hancock unveiled the more than 2-foot-high trophy Monday. Made from 24-karat gold, bronze and stainless steel, the bottom of the trophy is shaped like a football and rises to form an actual-sized ball at the top. There are four laces, reflective of the four teams that will make it to the playoffs. When addressing the cost of the trophy, Hancock called it a "priceless one-of-a-kind piece of art." The trophy, which weighs about 35 pounds, is designed to be hoisted from its foot-high bronze base that weighs another 30 pounds. Hancock took a selfie with the trophy sitting in its base, but said the first hoisting will be reserved for the winner of the first national championship game Jan. 12 in Arlington, Texas. "It can be lifted out of the base and hoisted in quite an inspirational manner," Hancock said. The trophy will be taken to different locations before the season, including Los Angeles this week, and showcased at several college football games during the season. Kevin Durant and Steven Adams each scored 16 points, with Adams adding 11 rebounds in the win. Anthony Morrow and Serge Ibaka netted 14 and 13, respectively. Oklahoma City has won five straight and seven of its last eight, improving to 5-1 since Durant returned to the lineup from foot surgery. I think we did a good job coming in with a good mindset, coming off a back- to-back, Westbrook said. Tough game. We came into another teams homecourt and took care of business. The Thunder grabbed a 103-94 home win over the LeBron James-less Cavaliers on Thursday, halting Clevelands eight-game winning streak in the process. Andrew Wiggins, coming off his first career double-double in Wednesdays win over Portland, deposited 18 points with five rebounds. Shabazz Muhammad also scored 18 points for the Timberwolves and Thaddeus Young added 16 points with five boards. It seemed like we felt good about ourselves against Portland, said Minnesota coach Flip Saunders. We didnt have that edge and they mauled us. Minnesota, which lost for the seventh time in eight tries, cut the deficit to 93-77 after three quarters, and Corey Brewers layup at the eight-minute mark of the fourth made it an 11-point deficit. Durant answered with a 3-pointer and the Timberwolves went cold from there. Youngs jumper ended a 2:39 scoreless string for the hosts before Oklahoma City netted six straight to push the advantage to 104-86 with over three minutes left. Chicago, IL (SportsNetwork. Dion Dawkins Bills Jersey .com) - So much for Atlanta being tested on its four-game road trip. Kyle Korver hit seven 3-pointers and finished with 24 points, as the Hawks completed the trek undefeated with a 107-99 win over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday night. Al Horford posted 22 points and nine rebounds and Jeff Teague filled the stat sheet with 17 points, 11 assists, three steals and three blocks for the Hawks, who have won 12 straight. I felt like tonight we were a little tired ... but guys kept fighting, nobody made excuses and we just kept playing, Horford said. Atlanta, which routed the Raptors 110-89 on Friday night, won its four games on the trip by an average of 15.25 points. The Hawks have also won 12 consecutive contests away from home. The Hawks have won 26 of their last 28 games overall and are two games away from matching the longest winning streak in franchise history. The 1993-94 team won 14 in a row. Pau Gasol tallied 22 points and 15 rebounds, while Derrick Rose provided 23 points, 10 helpers and eight boards for Chicago, which has dropped five of its last seven games. Very frustrating, but got to get it together if we want to go far, Rose said. After Nikola Mirotic sunk a pair of foul shots to stake the Bulls to a 21-16 advantage late in the first quarter, the Hawks went on a 15-6 run that bled into the second. Mike Scott nailed a 3-pointer at the first quarter buzzer to jumpstart the surge and a Korver triple preceded a Paul Millsap layup to cap it and give Atlanta a 36-22 margin at the 7:30 mark of the second. The Hawks were up 48-39 at the break and 76-67 after three. Taj Gibsons dunk pulled Chicago within 76-69 early in the fourth, but a Korver four-point play increased the cushion to 80-69 and the Bulls never got within less than five the rest of the way. Rose drove in for a reverse to claw the Bulls within 93-88 with 4:25 to play, but Horford hit a jumper and two Millsap foul shots gave Atlanta a 97-88 spread with 3:29 to go. The Hawks cruised to the victory from there. Game Notes Atlantas 26-2 mark over its last 28 games is the best extended stretch in the NBA since the Miami Heat won 27 straight two seasons ago ... Chicago has lost four of its past five home games ... Horford was 11-of-14 from the floor, while Korver was 7-of-9 from beyond the arc. Zay Jones Bills Jersey . The Argentina striker produced clinical finishes in the 60th and 79th minutes to level the score before Aleksandar Kolarov put City in front in the 87th. OKLAHOMA CITY -- The drama was sapped early from Oklahoma Citys blowout win over Utah, except for one detail. Thunder forward Kevin Durant is nearing Michael Jordans mark for consecutive games with at least 25 points. With the crowd buzzing late in the third quarter, Durant reached the mark for the 38th consecutive time, leaving him two games short of Jordans accomplishment, which is the most in the past 50 years. He finished with 31 points and nine assists to help Oklahoma City defeat the Jazz 116-96 on Sunday afternoon. Jordan did it for 40 straight games for the Chicago Bulls during the 1986-87 season. Durant is aware of the mark, but the NBAs leading scorer left worrying about it to the crowd at Chesapeake Energy Arena. "Im just going out there, playing my game," he said. "If it happens, cool. If it doesnt, cool. Thats how I approach it -- just playing within the offence. If a shots there, shoot it. If a pass is there, pass it. I try to play as simple as I can. If that (25 points or more) comes with it, then so be it, but if not, Im not going to lose any sleep." Durant was fouled on a 3-pointer with 4:02 left in the third quarter and was awarded three free throws. He scored his 24th point on the first one, and the crowd got into it before the second one. After he made it, the fans let out a loud cheer. He also made the third to give the Thunder an 84-56 lead. Durant extended the streak without playing in the fourth quarter for the second consecutive game. Russell Westbrook scored 19 points, Serge Ibaka had 17 points and Caron Butler added 15 for the Thunder, who have won six of seven. Oklahoma City shot 55 per cent from the field and made 11 of 18 3-pointers and 23 of 26 free throws. Enes Kanter had 18 points and 12 rebounds, Richard Jefferson scored 17 points and Gordon Hayward added 16 points and nine rebounds for the Jazz, who have lost four in a row. Utah trailed 11-0 before Jefferson finally scored with 7:34 left in the first quarter. Oklahoma City led 26-9 at the end of the quarter. It matched the fewest points the Thunder have allowed in any quarter this season and was the lowest for the Jazz in a first quarter this season. Utah missed the NBA low for an opening quarter this season by making a basket with 19.5 seconds left. "They were aggressive on the defensive end and we settleed for a lot of jump shots," Jazz coach Tyrone Corbin said. Zay Jones Womens Jersey. "We missed jump shots and they were able to run the ball out on us. In that first quarter, I thought we were hungry for it, but thats what good teams do. They come out and try to bury you right from the beginning. They had a lot of success doing it in the first quarter." Haywards first basket came with 3:21 left in the first half. Even with his 3-point play, the Jazz still trailed 49-30. Oklahoma City led 59-40 at halftime, and it might have been a larger lead if Jefferson hadnt dropped in 15 points in the first half, well above his season average of 10.2 points per game. Durant scored 18 points in the first half on 6-for-8 shooting and helped the Thunder shoot 57 per cent before the break. Utah cut Oklahoma Citys lead to 89-77 late in the quarter before Durant hit a 3-pointer over Hayward with two seconds remaining to push the lead back up to 15 points. "That was tough," Utah forward Marvin Williams said. "That was a big three. It almost took the wind out of your sails, to fight so hard to get back to that position, to cut it to 12, thinking youre going to start the fourth at 12 (down), and he makes an amazing shot like that over a defender. It was a big shot. It kind of took the wind out of our sails, almost, a little bit, because we had fought so hard." Hayward scored 13 points in the period, and the Jazz scored 37 points on 60 per cent shooting. Utah scored 21 points in the final 3:44 of the third. The Thunder held on, and now, Oklahoma City can look ahead to Thursdays showdown with West leader San Antonio. The Spurs have won 17 in a row and are three games ahead of the Thunder for the best record in the West with nine games to go. "Just continue to play our brand of basketball," Butler said. "Play with a lot of energy and effort and do a good job defensively and stay on the same accord, and we will be fine." NOTES: Thunder G Reggie Jackson missed his second straight game with a mid-back sprain. ... Jazz G Alec Burks returned to action after missing the previous four games with a left ankle sprain. ... Utah missed its first seven shots. ... Oklahoma City won three of four against the Jazz this season. ... Utah, which has the worst record in the Western Conference, won the previous meeting 112-101. GREEN BAY, Wis. Duke Riley Womens Jersey . -- Josh Boyd isnt into making a fashion statement, and he doesnt think he needs to go sleeveless to show off his toughness. All the Packers defensive lineman wants is to stay warm in the subzero weather when Green Bay hosts the San Francisco 49ers in an NFC wild-card showdown that could be one of the coldest playoff games in NFL history. So many intriguing story lines between these two NFC powers, and yet the arctic cold may trump them all. "Yeah, Im definitely going sleeves," said Boyd, a rookie from Mississippi. "I mean, I dont see it as a tough guy thing. I just see it as being comfortable." The National Weather Service forecast called for a high temperature in Green Bay on Sunday of 2 degrees, with north-northwest winds making it feel more like minus-15 to minus-20. The coldest NFL game on record is the 1967 championship game, known as the "Ice Bowl" won by the Packers 21-17 over the Dallas Cowboys at Lambeau Field on New Years Eve. The temperature dipped to minus-13, and the wind chill that day was minus-48. This might be little consolation to Boyd, for whom cold games in college meant playing in 30- or 40-degree weather. "Im from Mississippi, so this is a whole other animal," Boyd said. "Ive never seen negatives until I got here." Linemen are renowned for toughing out inclement weather without sleeves under jerseys. Dont want to give the opponent even the slightest idea that youre soft, the line of thinking goes. Well, 49ers defensive tackle Justin Smith is as tough as they come, and even he might wear sleeves for what he estimates would be just the second or third time in his 13-year career. "Youre not going to have an advantage having no sleeves. Youre not going to scare the opponent," said Smith, who has 6 1/2 sacks. Across the line of scrimmage, centre Jonathan Goodwin said he had no problem wearing sleeves. "I gave up on the dont wear sleeves to look tough a long time ago," he said. In some ways, players might be warmer than the 80,000 fans expected to pack frigid Lambeau. Once they get to the sideline, players can take a break on heated benches. Theyll likely wear long, heavy coats while not in the game. "This is not the norm. Anytime you get outside the norm for whatever your occupation, its obviously challenging mentally and physically," Packers coach Mike McCarthy said. "Thats definitely going to be the case Sunday." Footing on the field will be a key issue. Lambeau does have a heating system buried beneath the turf, encompassing 30 miles of pipes. There was supposed to be a brief "break" in the cold snap with temperatures rising into the upper 20s on Saturday, which McCarthy said would give groundskeepers a key day to work on the field. "It could be just a normal game thats played at a little slower pace. Or it could be where theres a lot of slipping and sliding going on, then you have to adjust a little bit," 49ers defensive co-ordinator Vic Fangio said. "You need to wait to see Sunday exactly see how the field affects the game." Another key for players will be to stay hydrated, though McCarthy jokingly put his index finger to his lips as if to tell a reporter to not let out the secret when asked the question Friday. "Weve seen it in past games where guys do cramp, so yes, its all part of our preparation," McCarthy said. If not for the arctic front marching into Wisconsin, more of the attention before Sundays game might be focused on 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernicks mastery of Green Bay in the teams last two meetings. Or quarterback Aaron Rodgers triumphant return from a left collarbone injury to help the resurgent Packers get back into the playoffs. Instead, San Francisco and Green Bay will have to deal with an unwelcome extra opponent: the bitter cold. Packers defensive lineman Mike Daniels seems to subscribe to the sleeves-are-soft philosophy. He doesnt like wearing them and plans to just play through the big chill and block out the conditions. And dont get him started on hand warmers. "I see offensive linemen with hand warmers, that tells me about them, man," Daniels said. "A defensive line coach in college said that, so I kind of kept that mentality." Panama City, Panama (SportsNetwork. Ethan Pocic Seahawks Jersey .com) - Scott Parel carded a 5-under 65 on Thursday and he grabbed a 1-stroke lead after one round of the season-opening Panama Claro Championship. Parel, the 2013 Air Capital Classic winner, has played the weekend at this event the last three years, but his best finish was a tie for 39th in 2013. Jeff Gove, a three-time Web.com Tour winner, is one stroke off the lead at minus-4 at Club de Golf de Panama. Mathew Goggin opened with a 3-under 67. He was joined in third place by Peter Tomasulo, Hao Tong Li, Harold Varner III and T.J. Vogel. Joel Dahmen and Shane Bertsch are among 15 players tied for eighth at minus-2. Parel and Gove both started on the first tee in the morning wave. Parel birdied the first and followed with a pair of pars. He converted back-to-back birdie efforts at four and five to move to 3-under. The 49-year-old ran off eight consecutive pars from the sixth. Parel moved to minus-4 with a birdie at the 14th. He rolled in his fifth birdie of the day at the 17th and capped a bogey-free round with a par at the last. I couldnt ask for much more than that. Out here, you know that if you can shoot under par, youre going to be right there, said Parel, who didnt turn pro until he was 31-years-old. I hit a lot of good shots and a couple of not- so-good ones that I got good breaks on, which you have to do to go around here with any bogeys. Gove was in the first group out and he ran off eight straight pars to start his round. He got on the board with a birdie at the ninth, and he made it two in a row as he also birdied No. 10. The 2005 Oregon Classic winner cruised to six consecutive pars from the 11th. Gove birdied the par-3 17th and followed with another birdie at the last to post 4-under. It was pretty steady. I was a little frustrated that I didnt get off to a better start because we were out there without any wind. Par is a good score out here and you dont feel like youre losing ground, Gove said. NOTES: Parel, Gove and Troy Matteson had the only three bogey-free rounds on Thursday ... Gove hit the first tee shot of the season for the tour ... Oliver Goss had a hole-in-one on the par-3 13th ... James Nitties withdrew before his round and was not replaced in the field. Ethan Pocic Womens Jersey . Born in Berkeley and raised in Oakland, where he later pitched for the As, Ross beat the Giants for the first time in six career appearances by throwing eight scoreless innings to lead the San Diego Padres to a 2-1 victory Friday night.MINNEAPOLIS - The Sacramento Kings have been in a free fall since the surprising decision to fire coach Michael Malone almost three weeks ago, and rock bottom was staring them right in the face on Thursday night. The Minnesota Timberwolves had wiped away a 13-point deficit and snatched momentum in the fourth quarter. Somehow, the Kings found a way to squeak one out and remove a little bit of the tension that has been building since Malones ouster.Rudy Gay had 21 points, six rebounds and five assists, and the Kings handed the Timberwolves their 10th straight loss with a 110-107 victory.DeMarcus Cousins had 19 points and seven rebounds after being ejected one night earlier, and the Kings shot 54 per cent while each of their starters scored in double figures. Darren Collison scored 21 points and Derrick Williams had 17, including a big 3-pointer down the stretch. We feel good about this win, we needed a win bad, but weve got work to do on both ends of the floor, said coach Tyrone Corbin, who had the interim label removed from his job status on Wednesday.Andrew Wiggins had 27 points and nine rebounds, but the Timberwolves couldnt take advantage when Cousins and Gay both fouled out in the fourth quarter. Troy Daniels 3-point attempt at the buzzer was partially blocked.Gorgui Dieng added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Minnesota, and Shabazz Muhammad also scored 15. But a lacklustre start and some missed free throws late in the game kept a miserable losing streak going. You cant win a game at the beginning of a game, but you can lose a game by setting the (wrong) tone, coach Flip Saunders said. We came out with poor energy. The Kings were one of the feel-good stories of the first month of the season, with Malone instilling a new commitment to defence and getting Cousins to harness his hair-trigger temper while they put together a 9-5 start. But Cousins was sidelined with meningitis and Malone was fired on Dec. 15.Sacramento was just 2-6 in its first eight games without Malone, including a 22-point loss in Boston on Wednesday in which Cousins was ejected after tussling with Celtics rookie Marcus Smart.A loss to the loowly Timberwolves (5-26) would have been another step in its downward spiral, especially with how Sacramento was humming on offence early. The Kings hit 78 per cent of their shots in a 37-point first quarter, but led by a modest eight points thanks to six turnovers and allowing the Wolves to shoot 57 per cent themselves.Sacramento led 81-68 midway through the third quarter, but Gay fouled out with 4:21 to play and Cousins picked up his sixth less than two minutes later.Wiggins scored on a drive and a spin move and Thaddeus Young hit two free throws to tie it at 99 with four minutes to go.Then Williams, the former Timberwolves No. 2 overall pick, responded with a 3-pointer that put Sacramento up for good. Its a good win, Cousins said. The biggest thing is that its showing we can play through adversity, so I think it was a good win for us.TIP-INSKings: Gay committed a career-high eight of Sacramentos 20 turnovers. ... He disappointed in Minnesota with his inconsistency and has been up and down with the Kings, but always seems to play well against the Wolves. He hit 3 of 6 3-pointers and grabbed five boards in 30 minutes. At the end of the day, its good for our team and good for our chemistry, Williams said. It was supposed to be a dream come true. Ryan Anderson Redskins Jersey . A marriage made in soccer heaven. The hometown star returning back to his roots to help guide his new team to a level of success he had reached many times. Sure, there were some good moments. The all-star appearances, the first goal at BMO Field when he headed the ball into the net against Dallas, but for Dwayne De Rosario it wasnt enough. This was not how he had imagined it going. On the field, De Rosario was able to forget the issues, play a game he loved in front of fans he adored. Sometimes the result would even go the teams way, but often it wouldnt and after the match, as he made the walk from the dressing room to his car, his mind would be cloudy and full of distractions about how the club was run. "Id definitely sit in my car and shake my head," he admitted in a sitdown with TSN.ca. "I know it was my hometown but I never wanted them to take that for granted and use that as leverage against me. I wasnt willing to stand for anything, its who I am, I am very passionate and hungry for success." As he started his third season with Toronto FC in 2011, it became very clear the two were heading in different directions. De Rosario had hoped to be loaned to Celtic during the offseason but didnt get his wish and three months later he was packing his bags from Toronto for, what appeared, good. It wasnt an April Fools joke, but on April 1, 2011, De Rosario was dealt to New York Red Bulls for what can now be labeled nothing more than a bag of balls. On a flight later that day, De Rosario thought he would never play for Toronto FC ever again but admitted he hoped to one day return when the direction of the club was different. "I never closed the door and turned my back on that option. How it was presented to me this time was a situation I couldnt refuse, I always wanted to create special moments and have special memories with my hometown, Toronto FC, and I am looking to live those moments I envisioned and hopefully we can create those this season." It is clear the Canadian international spent many hours dreaming of playing for his hometown club before it happened and it is also clear that a lot of those dreams didnt come true the first time around. "I demand success, first and foremost from myself, but from my teammates and from the organization and to have a situation where we now have it demanded from the top is absolutely ideal. Its the right way and I am happy to be a part of that." When Toronto FC kick off the new season in Seattle on Saturday afternoon, much of the attention will, rightfully so, be placed on star signings Jermain Defoe, Michael Bradley and Julio Cesar. The club has completely reinvented itself this winter and the return of De Rosario is almost an after-thought, a small scene in a blockbuster movie. With De Rosario now 35 that is, probably, the right thing for a team who want to contend for the MLS Cup this season, but the 2011 league MVP believes he can still play a major part on and off the pitch. He said: "I am really looking forward to this year. Jermain Defoe is a world class player, a winner, throughout the season it will be great to pick his brain and see how he runs and moves and create that relationship. Gilberto has a very bright future and so far I have enjoyed playing together with him. Anytime you have an opportunity to play alongside players of that calibre it is always fun, the most important thing is developing the understanding. So far its come along and we are excited to get it started." De Rosario has been in MLS long enough to know that tough times will still come Torontos way this season, even if they are successful. He admits expectations are high but thinks the team is ready to drag themselves through the rough patches because of the personnel general manager Tim Bezbatchenko has assembled. "Thankfully when we look at every position we have strong leaders. Julio Cesar to Steven Caldwell in central defence, Michael Bradley in the midfield and myself, Defoe up top, all strong personalities with experience, its important. All of these guys know its a long season, they understand we havent done anything yet, on paper it looks good but we have to continue to show that on a day-to-day basis and we have to work hard to accomplish something." De Rosarios second stint in Toronto gives the club a player whose best days are clearly behind him but he still thinks his versatility can help head coach Ryan Nelsen in many areas throughout 2014. "I dont have a specific favourite position. I like creating and scoring goals, up top, on the left, attacking mid, all these provide those opportunities for me but it depends on the team and its shape. Sometimes I am on the left and I dont really like it because I dont feel I get as much ball as I would like, sometimes I am in the midfield and you just defend a lot so that can be frustrating but sometimes, even, up top you can not get the balls, so it depends on the situation and the team." Throughout his career, he admits he is constantly learning and developing more and more on the tactical side of the game: "Spatial awareness is a big part of my game, knowing when to leave it and attack it and I have been working with a lot of the forwards here about that as well. You want to continuously move but sometimes you need to stop and let the space develop and attack it at the right moments." De Rosario will be hoping to find some of the space in behind Brad Evans and Osvaldo Alonso against the Sounders on Saturday. (You can read my piece on Toronto FCs strategy against Seattle here)  March 15 has been circled on the calendar for many Toronto FC fans because it is their first game but De Rosario cannot wait for the following week when he will get to pull on the red number 14 shirt in front of the home fans. "Those fans are my family, the relationship with them means everything to me. Every time I step out for training or in a game with that badge it is for them. I do not just represent myself, I represent my direct family and the fans and I take a lot of pride in that. One day I want the youngsters to look at me and say I want to be like him, and because of that, I want to set as good an example as possible." On paper, the words look cliché but you dont have to be around De Rosario for long to know just how much he truly means it and how much he loves his city and his club. Toronto FC have lacked a lot of things in their short history. Above all else they have lacked wins, but in recent years there has been a distinct lack of people caring about this club. Whether the signing of De Rosario the player turns out to be a success only time will tell, but to have a winner talk so passionately about this club is already a positive step before a ball has even been kicked. Join Luke Wileman, Jason DeVos and myself in Seattle for Toronto FCs first game of the season live on TSN at 4:30pm et/1:30pm pt. Lake Forest, IL (SportsNetwork. Josh Malone Youth Jersey .com) - Former San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is joining the Chicago Bears in the same role, the team announced Tuesday. Fangio, the architect of one of the NFLs premier defenses during a four-year run in San Francisco, bolted the 49ers after being passed over in favor of defensive line coach Jim Tomsula to become Jim Harbaughs successor as the teams head coach. The longtime NFL assistant instead joins the staff of newly named Bears head coach John Fox, where Fangio will be in charge of rebuilding a defense that was one of the leagues most porous units Chicago has ranked 30th overall in total defense in each of the past two seasons, while the 442 points the Bears allowed in 2014 were surpassed only by Oakland for the most in the league. Chicago finished 30th in scoring defense the previous year. In contrast, the 49ers ranked in the top five in total defense in each of Fangios four years at the helm, and were one of only three teams to record 25 or more takeaways in each of the last three seasons. San Francisco also finished second, second and third in scoring defense from 2011-13 before ending 10th in that category this past year. Those numbers helped the Niners reach the NFC Championship Game in three straight seasons from 2011-13, as well as an appearance in Super Bowl XLVII. The 56-year-old Fangio also served as the defensive coordinator for Indianapolis (1999-2001) and Houston (2002-05) and will entering his 29th season as an NFL assistant. Additionally, he was the defensive coordinator under Harbaugh at Stanford in 2010, helping the Cardinal to a 12-1 record and a final ranking of fourth in the Associated Press Top 25. A rousing dunk on the break off a high outlet pass saved by teammate Ramon Sessions.TORONTO -- Wins continue to elude Drew Hutchison. Hank Conger homered and drove in a career-high five runs to power the Los Angeles Angels to a 9-3 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon. Hutchison (1-3) gave up three runs and four walks over just 4 1/3 innings to extend his winless streak to seven starts. "You cant walk four guys," Hutchison said afterwards. Unfortunately, rookie reliever Marcus Stroman also struggled. He was pounded for four runs over 1 2/3 innings after replacing Hutchison as Los Angeles earned its third straight win. Toronto came into this four-game series riding a season-high, five-game win streak. "Thats the way it goes in this business sometimes," Toronto manager John Gibbons said. "You think everything is going in the right direction, then all of a sudden, wham, you run into some pretty good pitching and a good offence. "Theyre just out-playing us. But, a well-pitched game can cure all that." Toronto (18-20) will send ace Mark Buehrle (6-1, 1.91 earned-run average) to the mound in the series finale Monday night. The Angels (19-17) will counter with left-hander C.J. Wilson (4-2, 3.21 ERA). On Sunday, Los Angeles feasted on Toronto pitching, with Conger registering three hits before a Rogers Centre gathering of 20,871. But it was a two-out walk to Howie Kendrick in the fourth that was the start of Hutchisons undoing. It was followed by two doubles-- L.A.s first hits of the day -- as the Angels scored twice for a 2-1 advantage and stayed ahead the rest of the way. "I was ahead and I didnt put him away," Hutchison said of Kendricks at-bat. "It was not a good job on my part." The Angels ended Hutchisons afternoon in the fifth. Collin Cowgill, the No. 9 hitter, led off with a walk and went to third on a sharp single by Erick Aybar. That chased Hutchison and Cowgill scored on Mike Trouts double off Stroman. L.A. blew it open in the sixth, sending eight men to the plate and scoring four runs off Stroman for a 7-1 lead. The big blast came from Conger, who belted a 93 mile-per-hour fastball over the right centre-field wall for a three-run shot. Meanwhile, Angels veteran right-hander Jered Weaver (4-2) surrendered a run in the first but nothing more over 6-1/3 innings to win his fourth straaight decision. Joe Mixon Bengals Jersey. "Jered did a good job mixing his pitches up," said Toronto second baseman Steve Tolleson. "He never really threw the same pitch two times in a row and he would take something off his fast ball, add something to his curve, take something off his changeup. "He was good out there." Toronto threatened in the seventh, loading the bases and chasing Weaver with one out. But right-handed reliever Michael Kohn got Colby Rasmus to pop out behind second before Tolleson struck out looking. Edwin Encarnacion pulled Toronto to within 7-3 with a two-run double in the eighth but L.A. countered with two in the ninth. Toronto slugger Jose Bautista entered Sundays game having reached base safely in all 37 games this season to lead the majors. But that club record was snapped Sunday as Bautista went 0 for 4 with an RBI. Toronto opened the scoring in the first. Jose Reyes led off with a sharp single to left, then stole second on the next pitch. With one out, Reyes got a great jump off Weaver as Bautista cued one off the end of his bat to second. As Kendrick scooped up the ground ball and tossed it to first, Reyes broke from third and slid head-first ahead of first baseman Albert Pujols throw. L.A. took the lead in the fourth, combining a walk and their first two hits of the day, all with two out. Efren Navarro doubled into the left-field corner to score Kendrick, who walked, stole second and advanced to third on catcher Dioner Navarros throwing error. One pitch later, Conger doubled to bring in Navarro with the go-ahead run. After the game when Gibbons said reliever Sergio Santos was headed to the 15-day disabled list with forearm stiffness. The Jays will announce Monday wholl take his spot on the roster. NOTES -- Toronto closer Casey Janssen (left abdominal/lower back strain) returned from the 15-day disabled list prior to Sundays game. To make room on the 25-man roster, infielder Chris Getz was designated for assignment . . . Tolleson, who signed as a free agent this off-season, came into Sundays game batting .429 with all six of his hits with Toronto having gone for extra bases -- four doubles, two triples. That made him the first player since Chris Dickerson with Cincinnati in 08 to do that with his new team. BALTIMORE -- It seemed like every time the Baltimore Orioles were poised to score, the Chicago White Sox would squelch the threat -- two outs at a time. James Neal Predators Jersey . The Orioles hit into four double plays Tuesday night, including the game-ender in a 4-2 defeat. Jose Quintana (4-7) allowed only one run in seven innings for the White Sox, but the left-hander and three relievers benefited greatly from Baltimores lack of clutch hitting. The Orioles stranded seven and went 1 for 9 with runners in scoring position. "We squared up a couple balls early," manager Buck Showalter said. "But there wasnt a lot of good contact off (Quintana). Not real comfortable at-bats." Quintana (4-7) gave up six hits -- including a solo homer by Steve Pearce -- struck out eight and walked three. The left-hander was 0-3 in four starts since May 26. Nick Markakis, who went 0 for 4 against Quintana with two strikeouts, said, "Hes a guy that short arms the ball and the ball jumps out of his hand. It is tough to get in a rhythm when you dont see the ball behind his back and he short arms it with good velocity." One night after blowing a ninth-inning lead in the series opener, White Sox closer Ronald Belisario entered in the ninth with no outs and a runner on first. He allowed a pinch-hit RBI single to Delmon Young before getting pinch-hitter Ryan Flaherty to bounce into a double play. Belisarios eighth save sealed a much-needed victory for the White Sox, who had lost five in a row overall and eight straight on the road. "When you have the opportunity, you have to win those games," Chicago left fielder Alejandro De Aza said. "We have to enjoy it because it doesnt happen very often." Miguel Gonzalez (4-5) yielded three runs and a career-high tying nine hits in five innings for Baltimore. It was his second start since returning from a 17-day stint on the disabled list with a strained right oblique, and like the last one, he failed to get into the sixth inning. "Bent but didnt break. Kept us engaged in the game. Gave us some chances," Showalter said. "His command was off from what weve come to expect. He fought his way through five innings." Two batters into the game, Gonzalez and the Orioles fell behind for good when Gordon Beckham drove a fastball into the seats in left field for his seventh home run. Chicago added a run in the second when Ramirez doubled and scored on a single by De Aza. The inning ended with a poorly executed double steal in which De Aza was nailed at the plate after getting a late start from third base. Three straight two-out singles, the last by Tyler Flowers, made it 3-0 in the fourth. The White Sox loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth before Alexei Ramirez hit a popup and Dayan Viciedo bounced into a double play. After Pearce homered leading off the sixth, Adam Jones doubled. But Quintana struck out Nelson Cruz and Chris Davis before retiring J.J. Hardy on a fly to right. Chicago got an unearned run in the eighth. Ramirez singled, stole second, advanced on a passed ball and deftly avoided the tag at the plate by Caleb Joseph on a grounder by De Aza. "I have to give him a lane to slide into if I dont have the ball, but as soon as I have the ball Im free to make the tag," Joseph said. "So, I had the ball in plenty of time and just wasnt aggressive with it." NOTES: Orioles 3B Manny Machado will have a hearing Wednesday on his appeal of a five-game suspension for intentionally throwing a bat on the field. ... White Sox manager Robin Ventura says RHP Scott Carroll will start Thursday in Toronto. He replaces Andre Rienzo, who has been relegated to the bullpen after losing five straight starts and yielding 17 runs in his last three outings. ... Baltimore RHP Ubaldo Jimenez, 0-6 with a 6.38 ERA at home, takes the mound Wednesday in the series finale against Chicago RHP Hector Noesi. ... Chicagos Adam Eaton walked twice and singled. He has reached base in 19 straight games and has an 11-game hitting streak. Dante Fabbro Jersey .Y. - The NFL has fined Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch $20,000 for making an obscene gesture during last Sundays NFC championship game, a person with knowledge of the fine told The Associated Press on Thursday. Mike Fisher Predators Jersey . Of course that doesnt mean hes ignoring it. Thats actually rather impossible given the behind-the-scenes access to the Toronto Maple Leafs the network is getting.CHICAGO -- Patrick Kane scored two goals for Chicago in the third period, including a terrific dash through the Minnesota zone for the tiebreaking score, and the Blackhawks beat the Wild 5-2 in Game 1 of the Western Conference semifinals Friday night. Bryan Bickell also scored twice to help the Blackhawks win their fifth in a row after losing the first two games against St. Louis in the first round. Marian Hossa had a goal and two assists as the defending Stanley Cup champions made the most of two costly high-sticking penalties on Minnesota defenceman Jonas Brodin. Game 2 of the best-of-seven series is Sunday. The Wild showed no sign of any fatigue just two days after their dramatic 5-4 overtime win in Game 7 of their first-round series against Colorado. Playing in the second round of the post-season for the first time since 2003, Minnesota used third-period goals from Clayton Stoner and Kyle Brodziak to tie it at 2. Brodziaks third goal of playoffs on a slick pass from Erik Haula silenced the sellout crowd of 21,116 with 13:04 left, but Kane then electrified the United Center once again with his 33rd playoff goal. The flashy wing carried the puck into the Minnesota zone, hesitated as teammate Patrick Sharp skated behind him, and then split Brodziak and Brodin on his way to the net. He finished the play by roofing a backhand over goaltender Ilya Bryzgalovs left shoulder at 8:22. Kane then yelled "Showtime!" twice and pumped his right arm as the delirious crowd cheered wildly. But he was only getting started. The 2013 Conn Smythe Trophy winner picked up his fifth goal of the playoffs on a nice pass from Ben Smith, and Bickell added an empty-netter as Chicago pulled away. Minnesota went 0 for 3 on the power play in a disturbing sign after it struggled with the man advantage in iits first-round playoff series against Chicago a year ago. P.K Subban Predators Jersey. The Wild were unsuccessful on all 17 power-play chances when they were eliminated by the Blackhawks in five games in 2013. Bryzgalov had 17 saves in his first start since he was pulled from Minnesotas 4-2 loss to the Avalanche in Game 2. Darcy Kuemper took over for the Wild in net until he got hurt in the third period of the final game, and Bryzgalov made one save to help the Wild advance. Kuemper is day to day with an upper-body injury, but Wild coach Mike Yeo said before Game 1 against the Blackhawks that the goalie was not in Chicago, making it unlikely that hell be able to play Sunday. Bryzgalov got off to a slow start, and Chicago used the penalties on Brodin to build a 2-0 lead. Bickell tipped in Brent Seabrooks slap shot at 14:48 of the first, and then had some fancy footwork on the Blackhawks second goal in the second period. Nick Leddy made a nice pass to Brandon Saad streaking through the middle of the Minnesota zone. Saad then sent a backhand pass toward the left side of the net that Bickell stepped over, leaving it for Hossa to flip into the open side of the goal at 11:21. The rest of the period belonged to Minnesota, which outshot Chicago 17-3 in the second. Mikael Granlund had a shot go high off the left post, and Corey Crawford made nice glove saves on Wild captain Mikko Koivu and Zach Parise. Crawford finished with 30 saves after he made 35 stops in Chicagos 5-1 victory over St. Louis in Game 6 on Sunday, closing out the series for the Blackhawks. NOTES: The Blackhawks lost C Andrew Shaw to a lower-body injury in the first period. ... Blackhawks F Kris Versteeg was scratched for the second straight playoff game in favour of Joakim Nordstrom. It was Nordstroms second career playoff game. LIVERPOOL, N. Howard Wilson Youth Jersey .S. -- Kelsey Rocques Alberta rink struck gold on Saturday, scoring a nearly wide-open inturn hit in the 10th end to edge B.C.s Kalia Van Osch 7-6 in the womens final at the 2014 Canadian junior curling championships. It was Albertas seventh Canadian junior womens title, and first since Jocelyn Peterman of Red Deer won in 2012. Rocques rink will represent Canada at the world junior curling championships, which begin Feb. 26 in Flims, Switzerland. "Were really excited," said Rocque. "No kidding, its a dream come true, for sure. It honestly hasnt hit me, and it probably wont for a couple days. Its just so surreal right now." Alberta never trailed, opening the scoring with a deuce in the third end, holding B.C. to one in the fourth and then padding its lead with a fifth-end deuce. Van Osch struck back with a double takeout to score a game-tying three in the sixth. Alberta restored its lead with a deuce in the seventh. B.C. came back to tie it with two in the eighth, and it could have been three but Kalia Van Osch was heavy with her last draw. Alberta blanked the ninth end to carry hammer into the 10th. A double peel from second Taylor McDonald kept things wide open, but Rocque missed on her first delivery, a peel attempt that left a B.C. rock in the top 12-foot. Van Osch was perfect on her draw weight, but couldnt bury her inturn draw, giving Rocque a nearly wide-open inturn hit for the title. "So close," said Van Osch. "It was as close as we could make it and she made the last shot for the win, and thats all you ask for as a skip. But it was an amazing experience." David Njoku Youth Jersey . He had spent 16 days on the disabled list before being activated Thursday. He was batting just .203 when he came to bat in the 11th inning on Sunday. DeShone Kizer Womens Jersey . Anderson is scheduled to have neck surgery April 8 to repair the injury, which occurred when he collided with the Celtics Gerald Wallace during a game in Boston on Jan. 3. The 6-foot-10 Pelicans forward, who had been averaging 19.Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Martin Brodeur finally decided to hang up his pads this week, a decision that was hardly surprising considering the future Hall of Famer has nothing left to prove on the ice. The big question now is whether the longtime face of the New Jersey Devils plans to spend his post-playing career in the Garden State or if hell make his new home in St. Louis a permanent one? The 42-year-old goaltender ended his magnificent career as a member of the Blues and is following up his retirement announcement on Thursday by immediately joining the Blues front office as a senior advisor to St. Louis general manager Doug Armstrong. But, is Brodeurs decision to take the job in St. Louis a sign he is still bitter about the way things ended in New Jersey, or is the advisory position simply a stop-gap before he eventually transitions to front office work for the Devils? Lou Lamoriello, the Devils longtime GM and the man who drafted Brodeur in the first round way back in 1990, doesnt seem worried that his former franchise goaltender will choose St. Louis over Newark in the long run. To hear Lamoriello explain it, Brodeurs decision to take on a role in the Blues front office is simply a case of the veteran fulfilling a commitment to a club that gave him one last shot at manning an NHL crease. Lamoriello has said hes made a standing offer for Brodeur to join the Devils front office whenever he was ready to retire from the game, and the goalie couldve accepted the offer right now. He could have come back even now if he wanted to, but this is something he and I talked about, Lamoriello said. He made a commitment to St. Louis. They gave him a chance and players asked him to stay, so hell travel with the team and be in the coaches meetings with players. He might even find out whether he likes this business or not, who knows? But, until Brodeur himself chimes in and gives credence to Lamoriellos take on the situation, there will continue to be speculation that the legendary goalie is snubbing the Devils. Most of this drama stems from the way Brodeur left New Jersey, a franchise he won three Stanley Cups with while rewriting the NHL record book over a consistently great 21-season run. In the end, however, it was pretty clear Brodeur was unable to end his time with the Devils on his own terms. The club made a splash at the 2013 NHL Draft by acquiring Cory Schneider in a blockbuster trade with the Vancouver Canucks, a move which signaled the beginning of the end for Brodeurs playing days in New Jersey. Brodeur and Schneider had a fairly even share of net duties during their one season together with the Devils, with the younger netminder making 43 starts to Brodeurs 39. Although Brodeur boasted the better record -- 19-14-6 to Schneiders 16-15-112 mark -- the new kid on the blocks season was superior to the cagey veteran in just about every other way. David Njoku Browns Jersey. Schneider boasted a 1.97 goals against average and a solid .921 save percentage during his debut campaign with the Devils, while Brodeur struggled to a 2.51 GAA and .901 save percentage. Flash forward to the present and Schneider is still sporting a .921 save percentage this season while making 42 of New Jerseys 48 starts. Brodeur, meanwhile, had a 2.87 GAA and .899 save percentage in seven appearances with the Blues, a team that counts itself among the best defensive clubs in the NHL. Although it was obvious both last season and in 2014-15 that Lamoriello made the right decision in choosing the present over the past, it never seemed to sit right with Brodeur. To his credit, the always honest Brodeur made it known he wasnt happy about being forced to share starts with Schneider. Some folks would call his attitude selfish and they wouldnt be wrong, but it was more complicated than that. After all, having a bottomless supply of confidence in his abilities is one of many things that made Brodeur perhaps the greatest goaltender of all time. Simply agreeing with public opinion about Schneider being the better option in net for the Devils would not have been consistent with what weve come to know and love about Brodeur. And its hard to blame Brodeur for not taking other peoples opinions about his play to heart. Long before Schneider arrived in Jersey, the critics declared Brodeur should call it quits, only to watch as the cagey veteran proved himself still worthy of an NHL starting job. One of those junctures came as recently as the spring of 2012 when Brodeur anchored the Devils run to the Stanley Cup Finals. Heading into that postseason the majority of us covering hockey believed Brodeur was too old to get it done in the playoffs anymore but he proved us wrong. This week, however, Brodeur finally accepted the inevitable and called it a career. But just because he eventually arrived at the same conclusion as Lamoriello did when opted not to re-sign Brodeur last summer, doesnt mean he is over the perceived snub. Maybe we should believe Lamoriello when he says everything is hunky dory with him and Brodeur. This could turn out to be a case of much ado about nothing if this summer Brodeur cuts tied with the Blues and takes a job with the Devils just like Lou said he would. Then again, if Brodeur keeps his post with St. Louis into next season it will become increasingly difficult to take Lamoriello at his word regarding this situation. Like everyone else, the hockey media loves a conspiracy. So, until Brodeur gives us a real reason to stop speculating theres a rift between him and Lamoriello this story isnt going anywhere. NEW YORK -- Marc Bergevin of the Montreal Canadiens, Dean Lombardi of the Los Angeles Kings and Bob Murray of the Anaheim Ducks are the three finalists for the NHL General Manager of the Year Award. Harrison Butker Womens Jersey . Bergevin guided the Canadiens (46-28-8) to their second 100-point season since 1992-93 and their second playoff berth in as many years. He bolstered the offence with the summer signing of Daniel Briere and also added grit with the off-season acquisitions of Douglas Murray and George Parros. Bergevin then shored up the roster with mid-season trades for Thomas Vanek, Mike Weaver and Dale Weise, all of whom played critical roles in the team advancing to the Eastern Conference final for the second time in the past five seasons. Under the direction of Lombardi, the Kings (46-28-8) earned their fifth consecutive playoff berth, recorded their fourth 100-point season in franchise history and made their third straight appearance in the Western Conference final. He solidified the teams blue-line by re-signing defencemen Alec Martinez, Jake Muzzin and Slava Voynov and did the same up front by bringing back Dustin Brown, Kyle Clifford, Trevor Lewis and Jordan Nolan. Lombardi then kick-started the clubs offence with the addition of Marian Gaborik at the trade deadline. Murray helped lead the Ducks to their second straight Pacific Division title. Anahem (54-20-8) had the top record in the Western Conference for the first time in club history and franchise records in wins (54) and points (116). Astana team leader Vincenzo Nibali of Italy, who kept the yellow jersey, decried a "crazy race" in the 163.5-kilometre (101-mile) Stage 4 along the Belgian border as cyclings big event entered France after a wildly popular three-day start in England. Unlike his wins in Stages 1 and 3, when he made victory look easy, Kittel eked out victory by a half-wheel length at the end of the ride from Le Touquet-Paris Plage to Lille Metropole. Kittel, of the Giant-Shimano team, didnt celebrate this time but panted and, instead, it was runner-up Alexander Kristoff of Norway who swatted the air in frustration after being pipped at the line by the barrelling German. French rider Arnaud Demare was third. After a difficult day because of crosswinds and jumpy nerves in the peloton, Kittel said of his seventh career Tour stage win, "Its never easy ... (I was) lucky just enough at the finish line." Froome, the Team Sky leader, fell early in the stage after a rider bumped another into the Britons front wheel. He got up, got bandaged, and got back to the pack. Afterward, team boss Dave Brailsford said Froome would undergo X-rays as a precaution. Slovak star Peter Sagan also went down in a spill, and he too recovered to finish. "It was a crazy race," said Nibali, describing how his team informed him through his earpiece about Froomes mishap, and went back to see whether he was OK. Froome responded, "more or less," according to the Italian. Froome went straight into the team bus aand didnt speak to reporters after the stage. Curtis Samuel Panthers Jersey. He skinned up his left knee, left elbow and hurt his left wrist in the crash, and was treated by race doctor Florence Pommerie before rejoining the peloton. She told French TV the injuries were mostly superficial and amounted to "essentially a few scratches." Froome and two-time champ Alberto Contador are among 20 riders who trail Nibali by two seconds. Christian Meier of Langley, B.C., finished tied for 132nd in the stage, 79 seconds back. Svein Tuft, also from Langley, was 2:51 behind the stage winner in a tie for 164th place. Overall, Meier holds the No. 141 position, nearly 19 minutes off the lead. Tuft is just behind in 144th. An aching wrist could mean pain ahead for Froome. The peloton rolls over nine patches of bumpy cobblestones on Wednesday, which could make for a joint-jarring ride and prevent him from keeping his hands on the handlebars. Many race experts believe Wednesdays 155.5 kilometres (97 miles) from Ypres, Belgium, to Arenberg Port du Hainaut, France, could offer the first big shakeout among the contenders because of the treacherous cobblestones. "Tomorrow, we just have to make it through the day," Nibali said. "Lets hope its not raining." Before the fourth stage, 2010 winner Andy Schleck dropped out because of a crash injury a day earlier. On Sunday, British sprinter Mark Cavendish quit the race after crashing in the final sprint in Stage 1 and damaging his right shoulder. Kittel has already acknowledged that his job is easier without Cavendish in the race. The Giant-Shimano rider is not a threat for the yellow jersey: Kittel is not a good climber, and lost nearly 20 minutes to Nibali in an up-and-down Stage 2.
